Burden Farms is a third generation farming operation located near Antrim in the Ottawa Valley. Bill?s grandfather purchased the property in 1942, and his family has worked hard for the past 63 years to improve the building and the soil. It is operated today by Bill along with help from his wife and family.
The Burdens also work off farm to make their living. Bill does training in the fall and winter at the Kemptville and Ridgetown campuses of the University of Guelph, and his wife is a teacher.
As well as providing pasture for their cattle on their 335 acre farm, the Burdens grow corn, soybeans, wheat, barley and hay both for their cattle and for the cash crop market.
Bill is proud that his farm?s soil continues to improve through the employment of crop rotation and proper land management. This practice provides his livestock with good quality feed and his crop customers with a safe and nutritious product.
Bill?s goal is to meet as many as possible of the nutritional needs of his 35 cross bred cows and his Charolais bull with home grown feeds, adding only vitamins, minerals and a little supplement for them as needed. His cattle enjoy excellent health as a result of using home grown feeds and keeping animal stress to minimum.
Bill and his family enjoy eating their own beef, and hope you enjoy it too. Bon appétit!
